To begin your day with energy and a calm mind, make it a habit to practice a somatic routine right after waking up. While still in bed, focus on regulating your nervous system through conscious breathing, gentle cat-like stretches, and soothing somatic exercises.
Somatic practices involve tuning into your body's sensations and experiences to enhance self-awareness and reduce stress.
Breath Awareness: Focus on your breathing. Notice the rhythm and depth of your breath. Practice deep, diaphragmatic breathing to promote relaxation and calmness.
Body Scan Meditation: Lie down or sit comfortably and mentally scan your body from head to toe. Pay attention to any areas of tension, pain, or discomfort. This practice helps you become more aware of your bodily sensations.
Progressive Muscle Relaxation: Tense and then slowly release each muscle group in your body, starting from your toes and working up to your head. This technique helps you become aware of and release physical tension.
Visualization: Imagine a place where you feel safe and relaxed. Visualize this place in detail and allow yourself to fully experience the calmness it provides.
Self-Massage: Gently massage areas of tension or discomfort on your body. This can help you connect with your physical sensations and release stress.
